Hi, I've noticed that the throttle shaft on my rear carburetor has noticeable play, but the throttle shaft on the front one seems to be alright.

I think that the worn throttle shaft and carb body would cause an air leak and loss of suction, therefore the piston and needle would not move as they should. Can someone with more SU knowledge add anything?

Also, if I had one or both of the carb bodies bushed, then how noticeable would the bushings be?

Thanks in advance for your help.

You are correct .
However the repair will depend upon the model of SU carburetor you have. Some models will require over sized shafts while others have thin flexible replaceable bushings. OTOH if the leak is not severe you will still be able to set the fuel mixture---Keoke
