Help.I have installed a pair of SU HIF6 Carbs on my 74 TR6 and can't seem to tune them right ,the fuel consumption is rediculous. Any tips would be appreciated. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/canpatriot.GIF

Basically there are two things to check, the settings on the carbs, and the needles.
If the carbs were on a modified car they may be too rich for your car and though it may idle ok it may be rich when running.
more likely, though, is some problem with the choke, or the jet settings. The choke linkage you can adjust until you are sure that pushing in the knob does not leave the choke on.
The other item to check is that you have the jet nuts on the bottom of the carbs adjusted down about 8-10 flats (1.5 revolutions) from the fully up position. I use an awl to scratch a mark on one of the flats so I know where I am.
Paul Tegler's website "Teglerizer" has more detail on setup of the carbs plus an index of available needles; I am sorry I don't know which ones you need.
Simon.

And not to harp on the age-old rule -- but...

Make sure your ignition system is perfect before tuning the carbs. If your coil, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, points, timing etc.. have any issues, you'll never get your carbs tuned (and keep fiddling with them to no avail.)

When you put SU's on the TR6 your first concern will be to get the float bowls level and not at an angle. The TR6 is not angled like the TR4's and the bowls will set funny. It's a mater of undoing the float bowl bolt and figureing a way to adjust the float chamber adapter. Wayne
