SU Carb Help !! ?? !!

I am in FLA (live in OH) for the 3rd time to get a 1964 Sprite running for the first time in 20 yrs. Replaced Fuel Tank, Fuel line, Filter, New / Updated Fuel Pump and Rebuilt DUAL SU "HS2" carbs.

Trying to get carbs back on car and unfortunatley, many months have passed and did not take pic's of the orig configuration and am having no luck. Found out too late my books ref only single carb (not my dual setup)

Some of the difficulty (at this moment) is the 2 linkages for throttle & choke. Neither linkage seems to fit for the throttle connection (the "bar" with the plate for the throttle pin to go) and the choke bar has no way of attaching to the cable but does "properly" fit between the two units (& obviously I don't fully understand how the choke opperates in the "SU" setup).

I wouldn't rule out I messed up the rebuild, but really went out of my way to use the other unit as a model before moving onto that one.

Any pointers or online reference would be of great help for the HS2 carbs (also -- "plan B" is if anyone knows someone who can work on a car like this in Vero Beach, FL area).

Thanks for the help.

Hello George,

Sprites are not my area of expertise but I'm very familiar with S.U.'s. and most are configured in a similar way. Firstly can you fit the throttle bar with the end clamps between the two carburettors? The end clamps have a tag which pick up in the slotted socket on each carburettor throttle spindle. (the picture links above show this more clearly than I can explain {middle link in Dave's trio}). The throttle cable either goes through a bracket or possibly the heat shield which retains the outer. This will probably be fitted to the manifold before the carburettors go on.

Likewise the choke bar goes between the two sockets on the choke linkage. The choke actuating assembly is integral to the carburettor. It consists of the socket and a link from that socket assembly down to the bottom of the jet. This has its own return spring around that assembly. Usually the choke cable goes to one of these assemblies directly. Look for a small tube ajacent to and above the socket assembly. The bar merely links to the second carburettor. The cable inner is secured by a very small clamping screw. This pushes through a hole in the lever and the inner is clamped by tightening the end screw, easily lost!!

If you still cannot get these together perhaps you could post some pictures of what you have?
