Stuff I've been working on with the 6...

Bill,

Yep, it's actually through you that found Stainless Specialties. I remember you saying where you got your tips, so I thought I'd give them a try. Nice, fellow... it turned out that he used to work for Volvo in Greensboro too... small world!

I can't wait to get them installed... Hopefully this weekend... this new exhaust guy that I was referred to has a shop in his backyard, but I've seen his work and it's got to be some of the most meticulous stuff I've ever seen! His welds look factory.

Sorry, I posted to the other thread! Do you think that the guy in Florida could (would) duplicate these if my guy can't make them?

Hey Shannon, I can't get through to you on the private mail part of this..."too many messages" Could you get me the email adress or phone # for Rat-Co? I'd like to order the throttle pieces. I found the cable at summit as well as other sites, but I need the brackets. Thanks. BTW...beautiful car. I was in Greensboro last week getting tires put on at Hendrix Wire Wheel. It would be worth the drive down again to see your ride!

Duckspuddle: Don't mean to steal Shannon's limelight, but Rat-co has a banner ad on this forum (keep watching, it'll turn up). Heres a link: https://www.rat-co.com/
I also bought the throttle kit. It comes with the braided Lokar cable. Very nice indeed.

Shannon,
Again about your exhaust system. How did you suspend all that pipe. As you are very well aware, the suspension pieces sold by all the vendors for the dual pipes is absolute garbage. The quality is the equivalent to what you might pick up at Walmart. Even the OE system that Triumph had on their cars was weak at best. The biggest problem is the lack of room to hang anything. As briefly described in previous posts, I resorted to going with a semi-rigid system. I have the falcon split stainless headers that band-clamp directly to two 12" flex pipes that in turn ride on a large, shallow U-shaped bracket that I welded up and bolted to the frame. The duals pipes actually rest very firmly on this narrow table and not the flex pipes, padded by 4 layers of fire-proof cloth to prevent metal to metal contact. The pipes are then rigidly mounted to a custom crossbeam strap behind the T-shirt brace and again to a brace at the rear of the frame. So what I have is the engine able to vibrate with the the flex pipes taking the vibrations and the pipes in the rear not having to move. I lined all of the band clamps with mulitple layers of heavy aluminum foil and asbestos (don't ask). The whole system can be taken down with relative ease because the band clamps don't distort the tubing. The band clamps can be reused once but tend to stretch after that. (I see you used the ones from Stainless Specialties) I put them on with an impact wrench to get maximum tight fit. I agree with Piman, use shorter bolts. I have taken the whole thing down once already and had no problems getting everything to come apart.

I did not mean to Bogart your post but wanted to share the difficulties of mounting such a system and admire your efforts.

Bill,

On my current system, I welded up a mount for the transmission and the rear piece is bolted up through the trunk floor; I've never like that solution, so this time, I'm going to have the guy weld two mounts to the rear cross member just like the factory exhaust uses. My goal here is to get the pipes/mufflers up far enough to allow me to install a rear sway bar. Even though I have great clearance with my current exhaust, it's still to low for a sway bar (Richard Good's version).

I don't know if it's possible but I'll post some pics after he's done either way. I'm taking the sway bar with me so we can test fit it while the exhaust is being installed.

It's very nice of you to be our exhaust installation guru. My thanks and I'll wait to see the results (your pictures to show to my install guy) before I order my mufflers from SS.
