Stuck Nuts!

I'm about to put the seats back in my mkII Sprite. The old nuts are still attached under the body on the outside. Is this normal or are they just stuck becouse of rust and such? The new bolts that are supposed to fit don't wnat to. I tried to knock a nut loose but they seem to like where they are.

I happen to have some. Is there any chance that they are permanently attached? I hate to get the big hammer out and then regret it :eeek:.

Nuts are probably welded to the pan. Run a tap through them to clean up the threads and you should be good to go.

I think that may be. The catalogues show separate nuts but they have been wrong on my car before. Now to find the right tap....

Last two posts are correct, the nuts are welded to the pan. 1/4-28 tap and you should be fine.

The nuts are deliberately captive.

And if they are too worn to chase and get a tight fit, then another nut & lockwasher underneath will do the job.
