Strobe Light Timing Question

Ray Smith

I have placed marks on the crank pulley approx .25 inches apart. I plan to use my srobe light to time my BJ7. If I set the timing at 15 degrees BTDC with the idle speed at 600 rpm would this be correct?

Ray,

It should be set to 12 degrees before TDC for your motor. Here's the pulley measurements if you don't have an adjustable timing light.

5 degrees - 17/64" (.27")
10 degrees - 17/32" (.53")
12 degrees - 21/32" (.66")
15 degrees - 51/64" (.80")

Cheers,
John
