stripped pan bolts

Decided I needed to investigate recent increase in oil leak. Found that 2 front bolts on the sump pan were stripped. (TR6 engine in TVR). Can't be sure if it's the reason for the leaking, but it looks like the PO had tried to compensate with an abundance of gasket maker. Is using a heli-coil a good option or not? What's my best approach?
 
Properly applied, Helicoils work great. I installed one on my TR3 oil pan last year, which saved a more complicated tear-down.

Watch the hole/bolt length though. On my TR, some DPO had replaced all the pan bolts with longer ones that bottomed in some of the holes (including the one that was stripped).

PS, with Helicoils in a blind hole, it's best not to install the insert so it reaches the bottom of the hole. The tap won't cut the last turn to full depth. If necessary, you can trim the protruding portion of the insert with a Dremel & abrasive cutouff blade.

I also like to use Loctite between the insert and hole, and let it cure thoroughly before assembly.
 
on the TR6 engine there is a front block in there and its made of aluminum and thats why they get stripped out, TR6 guys can get the steel replacement block

Ditto the TR3 engine. But for me it was easier to install a Helicoil than to R&R the block.
