Hello fellow BCF members,

After reading some posts pertaining to frames and rust! I thought i would pass this information on to fellow vintage car restorers. I have used a company called "Redi Strip" in the past for derusting and degreasing very large Web printing presses before rebuilding them. They offer various types of striping for aircraft parts, aluminum, brass, copper, and just about everything that needs striping. Many vintage car restorers and hot rodders use there services as well to tank dip the frames, bodys and engine blocks. If i remember correctly they offer a service to tank dip the bodys, frames and parts in a rust preventive after the parts have been cleaned. There email is redistripco@comcast.net They are located 100 W central Roselle IL. 60172. They always did a great job for me and are specialist in this field. Also, they are fast! I hope this information may help some of you dealing with derusting and preservation issues. Regards, MIchael,IL.

Redi Strip"

I had my frame and all steel body parts tank dipped and E-Coated. All looked great. But when I got it home I noticed that there were some places where there were holes in the frame that some corrosive stuff had run out. Who knows what happened inside the frame. When I took some rotisserie members off that had been left on, there was corrosion there. I don't think tank dipping is the be all end all to restoration. Considering the cost I was half way to buying a new frame. If I had it to do over I would have it blasted and some kind if temporary rust prevention applied.

FWIW - We used to have a Redi-Strip up here just outside of Toronto that we used for both our Healeys (This was 25 and 30 years ago). We found the end result to be great as it removed all paint, filler, grease, rust...etc. I can only assume that it also removed any rust from inside the frame rails. Both cars (we still own both) have been on the road for over 23 years now with no new rust in the chassis. One word of caution however. We found that the sollution used continued to leach out of the frame for a while and damaged the new paint in the areas of the leaks, mainly at the cross of the frame. Overall a great process (environmental concerns aside) at the time.

I just got my frame back from Redi-strip. I am very pleased with the result. It uncovered some areas of rust that I was not aware of and it is coated with an anti-rust substance. More expensive than sand blasting but a better result I think.

I notice you live in Illinois. There's a company called ACP metal cleaning that will acid dip your frame and any other steel parts. They are located in Milstadt ILL, send me a PM and I'll give you the address and telephone number. Much cheaper than others.

If you keep old Healey Marque magazines you can look at the article I wrote in March 2004.
