Do you guys notice something strange about the voices in this Allstate ad? Any idea why they do that?

OK - got that. The voice belongs to the guy at the end of the commercial.

But why do they bother doing that? Some words are the original actors; others are "dubbed over" with that guy's voice. What does it accomplish?

Ok, De -- er, Tom, the point of marketing and commercials is to create a commercial that people will notice and will remember. The fact that we are talking about it would suggest that they have accomplished that goal. You would not have given the commercial a second thought had they just had the actual actors blandly speaking their parts. The sudden change to the AllState guy's voice is a "hook" to get your attention - and it worked!

Is it the best, most effective marketing hook? I don't know, I'm no expert, but that's why they do stuff like that. It's the same reason GEICO has a Gecko selling their insurance ( and that's not really the Gecko's voice either).

Basil - it sure hooked me! For better or worse, my brain since childhood has been overly-analytical. Looking for logic where logic may not exist.

So when I see something that appears "illogical", my brain says "stay away!" - which may be why I've never gone out to buy something I see advertised. Overly analytical Tom just makes a list of needs, researches the pros/cons, and goes out to buy.

The ol' logic search obviously precludes belief in just about any political statements I come across. Oy.

Denser and Tenser, that's me.

T.
