Driving the Whitephrog Saturday...it was rather cloudy... decided to turn the lights on in order to be better seen... turned the switch and the engine died...turned it back and the engine resumed. Never had a problem with the lights until then. Cause?? New short somewhere?

Ray, had you been doing any work to the wiring recently? This is the bugeye combo switch?

No wiring work in at least a six months. I swapped out a dash about then. It's an NOS combo switch.

When you turn the switch, did the lights go on? Does this happen at the first position on the switch (cruising lights) or at 2nd position? (all lights)? That would help in figuring out where the short is.

I'm sure you checked the simple things such as nothing is touching where it shouldn't at the dash switch itself? Do any fuses blow?

voltage drop to the EI?

Have you taken a volt meter to the combo switch yet? Maybe something in it is bad and when the lights turn on, it kills the hot to the ignition??
