strage amount of carbon on the slide of one carb

I am starting to remove parts in prep for a head pull and have discovered lots of, like super black carbon build up on the forward carb slide on my 65 bj8. The forward intake has more but not an excessive amount of carbon inside the manifold, less in the aft ports. I am burning lots of oil but the breather is in the aft carb. Any ideas?

Hi Bob. Take a look at the spark plugs if they follow this same pattern you probably were also running rich on the front carb?---Keoke

sounds to me like you are just running your carbs too rich.

Sounds like we have consistency but I don't understand how a rich mixture effects parts outside the combustion chamber and the immediate surround. I believe you both however the cleaner side of the slide is the worst part, go figure.

Well Bob, mother nature and all other things being equal any time you pull a SU carb apart you will see this non uniform distribution of carbon in the venturie as well as the on the piston. It shos how the air flows during operation--Fwuw--Keoke

Just a stupid question or two. Are you sure its carbon and not oil blow-by or dust form the fan belt that has hardened? Do you have any on the bottom of the timing chain cover and around the back of the pulley? Told you they were stupid.

:savewave: Hi TH

Nope! I have not noticed any of those things maybe others have and will define the circumstances. That Bob fella up in Truckee bein at a higher altitude yhan you may be just runnin rich. :G----Keoke
