MGB Stow-away top frame for 74 l/2 MGB???

Hi,

I have a 1974 1/2 MGB. I used to have a 64 MGB and I truly think that the stow-away top and frame are easier to use and look a little better. Will that fit on my 74.5 MGB? If so, does anyone have a frame for sale?

Yes, the frame will work...but....you will need to get a new hood (top) as the stowaway has a taller profile.

Thanks! Yes, I know that I'll need a new top also. I'm having a little trouble finding the frame, so I'm hoping someone has one for sale.

Makes for a good airflow through the cockpit on days that it is too hot/rainy/inclimate to have the hood down/stowed.

Remember, that on a zip out, the top right above the rear window is attached to the frame - for a reason......you won't be able to attach your top to the 2-piece frame right above the rear window.

Makes for a good airflow through the cockpit on days that it is too hot/rainy/inclimate to have the hood down/stowed.

A stowaway can be down without the hood)top) being removed from deck, which allows for quicker up (without leaving vehicle if dexterous enough) in case of rain.

Ever driven through Kansas on 100* day with the sun beating down on you?

Or through Nevada's deserts on a similar day?

There are times one does not want to take the hood down....and you need the ventilation that a zip-out rear window gives and at the same time the protection from the sun that the hood gives.....

I converted ~My '69~ to the old-style, stow-a-way top earlier this year. I wasn't sure if the "receiver sockets" (or whatever you call them) would work, but the old-style removable frame fit them perfectly. Apparently a lot of MGBs have these recievers, even if they have the newer, folding-type top frame.

My previous frame was the "scissors-type" which seems to pinch the top when folded. The newer type (not "scissors") folding frames are much better.

I needed a new top anyway, so I found the erector-set frame on Craigslist.

I prefer this older style (higher) top in terms of looks and there's more room if I leave the top and frame at home.

I didn't get the zip-out window.....I'm cheap and anyway I only drive this thing about 1000 miles a year, almost always in top-down weather.

And if it gets too hot?.......that's what the Miata with a/c is for.

The "receivers" are also used for the tonneau bar.

OK, that makes sense......I couldn't figure out why they'd be there otherwise (my car has no tonneau bar).
