I am currently using the stock air filters. I had to remove them when I put in a new heat shield and noticed dirt seems to be making it through the filters. I believe they are supposed to be coated with oil, correct?. How do you do this so that when I reinstall them they don't start dripping all over the engine? How do you clean them? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Kevin

Oil in a spray can. Just a pass or two.

Clean with soap and water and brush or paint cleaner, or gasoline. LOL

Weight of oil is not an issue, 10 weight or even sewing machine oil is fine.

You will see kits for cleaning and oiling air filters. Not required, Do it your self. "we tight club"

I don't think the original BE filters do much for keeping out the dirt....more for show and to keep out the bugs and leaves from the intake.

Used em for 20 years or so.

Does that mean you are still using the stock filters, Jack? If not, why did you change them out and what did you replace them with. By the way, thanks for all your help, Jack.

Here is what I changed to, neet?

I find that the stock filters are fine for removing microminiature particles like dead squirrels, buffalo chips, pianos, and falling meteorites. Anything smaller, though, goes right through them. That said, I use them, because they look really neat. Still, the time may come that I replace them with something more effective. Just one more thing on the list.
