Still not clear on mounting BE seats.

My Bugeye came with no seats, but now I have mine done and ready to put in. On the forum, some have said to just mount the runners to the floor. But there is an about 1" high longitudinal frame support running down one side of the floor on the drivers and passengers side. If i sit the frame down where it is supposed to go, it is sitting on top on this longitudinal frame member and therefore about 1" off the floor. I know some people have mentioned using a wood spacer under the runners, but others have said this is not needed. Am I missing something here? Jim

Jim,

You either need the wood runners or a sort of "Z" shaped bracket to clear the lengthwise stiffener. the wood strips are the same length and width as the seat rail and approximately 1/2" - 5/8" height. They are not needed in later cars because that stiffener was eliminated. I believe that occurred when the cars went to semi-elliptic springs.

Thanks, Gerard. I thought something would be needed as a spacer, but I guess as you said, the later Sprite owners did not have this problem. That's why the other posts were confusing. Jim
