I managed to get the head unit out, and the dash facia and heater assembly. I can see a light at the end of the tunnel for dismantling the car!! Next comes the steering column and then the engine and transmission. I received all the body sheet metal replacement panels I'll need yesterday. Thanks for the continued support and advice....

I believe you'll find that the steering column is part of the steering gear box. It all has to be taken out the front with the nose removed. I think you've already got the nose off though. The later cars (3As and 3Bs) have a two piece column that is MUCH easier to remove and service.
Have fun! I hope to catch up with you as soon as mine comes home. (it's already mostly disassembled)

Banjo,

Got the gas tank out tonight. I think I'll pull the engine and tranny next..it should make much more room to get that steering box out...altho I might just leave it in as I have to get the car onto a tow dolly sometime down the road to get it to the media stripper, and then to my body and paint guy...good luck with yours..
