Sticking speedometer needle

Very cold on the road today. I noticed for the first time that my speedometer stuck momentarily whenever I started, then jumped up to 10 or 15 mph and continued without problems thereafter. No waivering... only that momentary sticking when starting from "0."

Is it possible that the weather has something to do with this? Or is some other problem likely.

Never had this problem before... especially on warm or hot days.

i should add that the speedometer was rebuilt two years ago with all new mechanism, and the cable is new.

My guess is that the bearing for the needle has a bit of oil or grease (I normally do not oil or grease the needle bearings themselves), and this is a bit viscous when the temp goes down. The good news, it should not hurt the unit, and if it gets quite sticky, all you have to do is break it open and clean the bearings...

John,

Many thanks. That's reassuring. I hope that when things warm up a bit, the problem will go away. Otherwise, I will check the bearng for the needle.
