OK, I know some here will freak to even think about it, but I saw a beautiful 67 MGB in Tundra colour yesterday at my mechanics shop. Upon a much closer look, I noticed that it didn't have the regular chrome strips that rivet onto the sides on it, but it had a stick on trim. If I didn't get real close I wouldn't have been able to tell at all.
I have a brand new set, not the cheepie one either, that I have to put on the '71. The car will need a paint job in the near future since the one on it has some cracking and air bubbles, as well as some chips thanks to me. If I could get away with the stick on ones until that time, I think the Mrs. would be happy. (Her Car). I would then put on the real trim.
My mechanic didn't know where he would have found them, and I have not seen them at any of the major stores up here. Does anyone know where I might find these, which are the same width as the origionals?

If I'm not mistaken, I think aerog mentioned using that on his car.
 
yeah, I believe aerog has them too.
 
Paul, nothing to do about stick ons but did you recveive the delivery from Purolator with the Map Laght??

Yes, thankyou. It came yesterday afternoon. I was going to email you when I got home from work tonight. It looks and fits great. Now I just have to figure out how to wire it so it works with the door switch.

Should have sent you someting yesterday, but I was busy hacking up my hand trying to attatch a new Speedo cable to the back of the speedometer.

I used those stick on strips on a GT I had back in the early 90's...Sorry but I have no idea where I got them.
 
wally world? JCW? it seems to be one of those parts that you ought to be able to obtain relatively easily through normal parts store or retail stores that carry limited auto do-hickeys

The OE trim? Yes.
 
yeah, AFAIK, they still make the original (OEM) chrome strips. However, the point of the "stick-on" ones is that they'll absorb door dings without denting like the stock ones. They may appear to be "too shiney" to some people, but IMO I'd rather have those than to have 50 dings in real metal chrome strips 2 days after installing new ones.

I consider those "stick-on" strips to be more of a thing to put on a daily driver, and less of an item for a show car, if ya know what I mean.
 
A guy came by my office this morning in a '69 MGB (driving it home from Tallahassee FL to Calgary, Alberta!!) - and it had that peel-and-stick side molding. It actually looked pretty nice. It appeared to be about the same width as the stock molding, but the profile was somewhat different...more of a "peak" to it. I'd certainly consider it on a daily driver. Lots cheaper than replacing damaged originals! It used to be very common back in the 70s and 80s. A quick search on the JC Whitney site turned up a couple of different verions.
 
The originals are so inexpensive - what, like $6 per piece?
 
I thought "good" ones were a lot more than that....but I haven't priced them....
 
How different is one stainless side moulding different from another? If there is a difference I'd like to know... I will be buying a set soon for my MGB, and I don't want something cheap that's gonna fade 2 years after I have it on the car. And I definately don't want any "stick on" crap. Sorry, been there done that, with a different car, and the stick on stuff started falling off after about a year... I know there have been great advances in adhesives in the past few years, but I don't trust the stuff... I want the regular clip/bolt on stuff - like the factory put on.
 
hmmm... Steve_S has some bolt on/clip on/rivet on stuff on his MGB GT. Though his stuff is a bit different. It has a vinyl/rubber strip in the middle to help prevent door dings. Definitely not a stock item, but at the same time, it's one of those things that doesn't just pop out as out of place until you actually stop to really look at it.

When I first saw his car, I thought something looked a little different about it, but I could not put my finger on what it was until I was actually right next to the car. Even then I didn't figure it out for a second or two. I don't have any pictures on hand that show what I'm talking about.
