Steve_S, I love your car!

I'll second that! Also like your website Steve... Was that the YB saloon that was up in Ottawa? Your description of the car sounds vaguely familiar.

There is a gorgeous MG YT tourer running around Calgary here, it's often at shows.

Thank you very much for the compliments. That was indeed the car in Ottawa. From what I've been able to uncover regarding it's history...

This YB is the youngest surviving Y-Type in the world. It was made on the very last day of production as the second of five cars completed that day. The other four no longer exist. It was purchased new by a gentleman in England. He kept the car and drove it regularly until 1979 when a man from Ottawa, Canada, vacationing and on his way to Saudi Arabia came into town. He saw the car for sale, and having an MG years earlier decided to buy it on the spot. He and his wife toured England for two weeks in the car and upon completion of his trip had it shipped to Canada. Here he placed it in storage and sadly never drove it again.

In 2001 he passed away, leaving his collection of cars to his son. The collection was comprised mostly of Singers, and it was decided by the son to sell everything but the Singers to make things more manageable. In 2003 the YB went up for sale and while shopping for a Magnette, I saw the it advertised. My wife took one look at the car and forbid me to buy the Magnette in favor of the YB. A couple weeks later it was delivered to our door. She made a good choice!

The car is in mostly original condition including all original interior, suspension, glass, etc. It appears to have been painted sometime in the 60's which would explain the non-original paint scheme which we really love. The photo does make it look nicer than it appears in person but that is due to careful choices in lighting. There are some rust trouble spots and a sizeable dent in one of the rear fenders received during shipping from England to Canada but I have no plans to restore the car because I would rather drive it than watch it sit in pieces for the next 10 years.
