Just wanted to pass on a good find I made when looking for someone to redo my OE steering wheeel on my 70 TR-6. The place is called American Stitches in Mesquite TX and I was very pleased with the leather work to restore my steering wheel. I've enclosed a picture......They can be reached at 972-613-2914.

That's very nice work. I always assumed that only factory gnomes could do leather steering wheel covers this good. Can you tell us more about approximate costs and turnaround time?

If anyone else knows national mail order services like this, I'd love to hear reccomendations.

Michael,

The total cost with shipping to Upstate NY was $272.00. I sent them my old ratty cover as a guide, and turn around was less than 3 weeks total.

That wheel came out very nice Mark, looks like money well spent.

Question, I noticed in your picture there is a switch mounted on the floor to the left of the pedals. Did you relocate the high beam switch from the steering column to this location, or is that just the switch for the nitrous injection /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif? Just kidding, if so thats a great idea, I hate it on the column. I never understood why they moved the switch from this location to the column on American cars.

Scott, my 72 has the high been switch on the floorboard as well. Did they change it for 73?

Scott,

The 1970 TR-6 had the high beam switch mounted on the floor, I think they changed it to the steering column in 1973.

Mark, great looking wheel.

Ah, OK, a tidbit of TR6 lore I did not know. My car is a 73, and I only have the switch on the column. I assumed all TR6's were the same in this regard. That being said, I think I'd like to retrofit my car with the earlier floor mounted switch. As I said, it's a feature I sorely miss on modern cars. Now, are the earlier TR6's fitted with both a switch on the floor and the column, and if not, is there any reason why I wouldn't be able to wire it for both?

I don't think you could wire in both of the switches. You would have to only have one hooked up. I think they would conflict each other.
