TR2/3/3A Steering Wheel Diameter with R&P Steering, TR3A

Hello All

For those of you with R&P steering and aftermarket steering wheels, can you tell me what diameter wheel has worked well for you? The steering effort with R&P is considerably less than with stock steering setup, so I expect that a smaller wheel will work great. (I bought a cool wooden steering wheel at the Woodland show swap meet this past weekend - need to decide if it will be better used on the TR3 or the Herald).

Show photos to follow!

Thanks

Pat

FWIW, Triumph went to a 16" wheel when they put R&P on the TR4 though I would think you could go smaller than that w/o ending up with forearms like Popeye.

In some circles they favor steering wheels small enough to drive while you're in handcuffs but I try to avoid those situations.

Well, the wheel I purchased is about 14 inches in diameter - it is a 350mm wheel. Does anyone have a sense as to whether or not this might be a workout to drive with?

That's pretty close to the 14.5" TR6 steering wheel which a lot of people think is a 1/2" too big.

Hi Tom
This is such a nice wheel, I hate to not put it to good use. Check it out!

I put a 15" wheel in my TR3A with R&P. I think that a 14" wheel looks a bit small for the TR3. Steering feels great.

It is a 350mm (approx 14") Personal steering wheel. Made in Italy by Nardi, as I understand it. This smaller wheel might be better suited for my Herald, which will be my next resto adventure after the TR3 gets done. Thanks for the photo David - that provides good perspective for me.
