Steering shakes at higway speed

When I drive my Spitfire at or above 60 mph I can get quite a bit of shaking in the steering wheel. I had the front tires balanced and did find one of the tires to be out balanced. This did reduce the severity of the shaking but did not eliminate it. Any other suggestions?

When were the suspension bushings and wheel bearings last replaced?
Try lifting the front wheels, then grab the tires forward and aft and see if there is any left to right play then grab them top and bottom and repeat.

I would also suggest that you look at not just balancing the tires and wheels but road force balancing. There was a earlier thread about it.

I had a similar problem with a 1970 Mk3 Spit. I rebuilt the front suspension, bushings, ball joints, trunions, and tie rods, everything short of springs and shocks. This fixed the problem. But, before you do all that I would agree with the above post. Put the car on stands and see if you can move the front wheels. This should give you a good idea on what needs to be replaced/fixed.

let me add a damaged hub ate over a grand of my money until i found it
