Steering Rack

My new rebuilt steering rack from TRF (only three months) has finally shipped and will give me a project for next weekend. Plan on just replacing the rubber bushes with new ones. Has anyone had experience with the aluminum ones? Heard they will make the ride too harsh, feeling them through the column. What say?
Some time ago I had experimented with the quick-turn rack, 2.5-1 ratio. Scary as heck. Would NOT recommend these to anyone.

I installed the solid mounts many years ago and I would not go back to the rubber-mounted rack. The steering is very solid and positive. With the rubber-mounted rack you loose the feel of the road. The first solid set I received from Moss Motors broke during installation. Moss sent me another set with no questions asked. Seems they received some of poor quality back then but this should have been corrected.

Again, I would never change back after replacing the rubber steering mounts with solid mounts. BTW the solid mounts are standard items for TR4’s.

Thanks for the tip, Terry. I ordered the aluminum bracket from Moss, TRF is too slow, although I love 'em to death.
Big Healey, eh! That is my dream car albeit a bit out of my reach. My TR6 gives me unlimited pleasure but the lines on the Healey are oh-so-fine. Drove one in college in the sixties for awhile, until we broke up and she took back the Healey as well as my Lava Light and all my 78's. Bitch.
I posted a query on the Healey site and basically got snubbed. Guess it goes with the car. Keep looking for the find of a lifetime hidden in some old garage, never know. A club member (British Motoring Club of New Orleans) passed away, think his widow knew what she had. Maybe they buried him in it. Oh well, I'll keep looking.

I have a pair on a 78 Spitty and love them!!!
They were also originally mounted on heralds from the factory. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/iagree.gif

Finally got the new/rebuilt (TRF) rack in this weekend and whew! what a difference. My old rack is so limp that I now know why I wobbled all over the road. Used the aluminum mounts and lovem. The old ones are so bad TRF may not give me the core charge back. Glad I did it. This is the last major rebuild on my 6 and I can now say it is a new car!
Just have to have it aligned.
