Is there a way to lube or grease the R&P on a 67bgt? I looked for nipples but could not find any.

It is recommended that you use 90W gear oil in it, a larger-than-grease nipple was fitted to some of the early cars, then not put in 'cause folks mistook it for a grease nipple. It would be in the center of the cover over the pinion gear. If it isn't there you could add oil by removing the cover: Be aware there may be shims there, and pull out the "puck," spring and insert to allow you to pour it in. Not certain how much it should have, the manual says "several strokes of an 'oilgun'."

Now here is an intresting question, what the heck is an oil gun?

Some shops used to use oil guns some years ago; they were not unlike air-powered grease guns, except that they had a little tank of oil and an air hose to squirt it. The closest I've been able to find is a little oil can.

As far as filling the rack, I just popped the damper cap and poured in from a gear oil bottle.

& while you're putting the 90w in, turn your steering all way to right & all way to left...think all it takes is 1/3 pint.

I know it can't take much. Overfilling would likely result in ruptured boots(?). I gave all the internals on this one Tony sent me a coat of blue bearing grease, then piddled about 4 ounces of gear oil into it after it was mounted on the crossmember. Yup: turning it lock-to-lock as described.

I usually fill mine while they're out...loosen one of the boots & pour it in....last one I did has a tiny leak right at the cover so I'll need to replace the gasket again.

Thank you sir.

Note to self: add another four ounces. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

...and to save you opening it up again like me, it's 1/3 of an imperial pint (568ml), NOT a piddling US pint (473.2ml).

Is a post on the Spridget forum concerning oil pumps, make your own and bought, including links.
