Lance,
Dave is right. You are on the money and are on the right track. Removal of the entire column in not too difficult and has some other advantages. Yes you remove the grill and radiator. I used this opportunity to clean and polish the grill, flush and repaint the radiator and air shroud, replace the firewall (inside and out) column grommets. This also will give you room to properly inspect and tighten the shock tower mount and bolts. While your at it the trafficator since it is out can be inspected and rebuilt. You will find that once the radiator is out and the column loose it will come out with a bit of manevoring and a rotation as per Daves earlier description. Good luck. By the way the column looks great with a fresh coat of paint after all the work.
