Wedge Steering column bushing replacement

I need to replace the steering column bushing in my 7 and I'm having a bit of trouble. Since several of have probably done this, maybe you can help me. I cant seem to get the column out of the car. I've loosened the knuckle joint closest to the firewall and all but taken the steering column out, but can't get the column loose from the splined knuckle joint. Am I going about this in the right way or am I missing something? Do I need to take the rack out and go from that direction? That seems so much harder. Any help would be greatly appreciated.:D

There is a clamp on the shaft under the dash, loosen the lock nut and grub screw, and you should then be able to push the inner shaft into the outer shaft.

That all assumes it isn't frozen in place.

No need to remove the rack but the column needs to be addressed of course, expect the cut some pvc pipe as a help to knock it into place. Use lots of grease where the shaft meets the new bushing. I'd also strongly recommend you use a good poly bushing so you don't have to do this again for a long time.
