Steel Dash Removal

Do I really need to remove the whole of the steering column in order to remove the metal dash? Or is there a trick?

I noticed that comment in a previous post of yours, but forgot to ask why you would want to do that?

You don't need to do so to remove the heater case, if that's your goal.

Is he talking about the metal fascia behind the veneer?

Yes, sorry: wrong terminology! I meant the metal fascia /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

I thought I would need to remove that in order to remove the heater box, but in fact I extricated the box without problem this afternoon.

Now the bad news: the resistor is fine, but the heater motor itself is open circuit. I am now in the process of opening it up to see if it is just a loose wire, or if the windings are burned out.

If the motor is a problem, you can buy new ones from TRF or try to get a local electrical or small motor repair (vacuum) shop to rebuild yours.

Prices will probably be the same, about $100 bucks.

If you get it repaired, or if you buy new, test them before putting the case in the car.

Remember that I reminded you to do that.......
