MGB Steel Dash MGB Glovebox Insert

I have the dash out of my '64 B for refinishing, and in the process of removal have destroyed the cardboard glovebox insert.
I have it on fairly good authority that the Moss replacement does not fit correctly, being smaller than the opening in the dash.
Can anyone confirm, and/or advise an alternate source of a more satisfactory part?
 
I used one of Moss' glove boxes in Jerri's GT...it was a hard fit but its in & working...
 
I tried one each from the two suppliers. They were identical, neither one is a satisfactory fit. I did get them sorta-kinda "installed" but it is by no means a "simple" task.
 
They're still having that problem? A mechanic and me nearly destroyed one trying to install it. This was ten years ago!
 
Well you know cardboard is tough to work with. Why not make your own from wood?? Possible??
 
If I was going to make one from scratch, it would be from plastic. I wouldn't even try though because the shape of the opening is really awkward.
 
I just finished installing a new harness, (and had great service from Mike and Dan) and when I was done I put the panel on the passenger's side outboard kneewall. I went to Kmart (not Walmart) and got a plastic kitchen sink bowl, I guess you must wash dishes in it, (I'm getting myself in pretty deep here)and cut off the top 3-4 inches saving the bottom as a cover. Looks ok, I bet you could find small plastic boxes that could be cut to your needs pretty easy.I could take a picture tomorrow if you want.

A local Brit car shop had a used OE insert, that while not perfect, at least didn't have big chunks broken out of it, so my problem is more or less solved.
A pity about the Moss (and others) replacement, but my understanding of the situation is that demand is not sufficient for another fabricator to tool-up to produce a better product, nor is the current supplier motivated to improve the product.
