Hi folks - I just got my rebuilt distributors back from Jeff and man did he do a great job!

I'm having some trouble with the initial static timing however.

I have the timing at 10 degrees BTDC, and #1 piston is where she should be, but I can't get my timing test light to work. When I connect her to the coil the light is always on. Is the + side of the coil supposed to always hot when the ignition is on?

Yessssss. Ign on, it is ready to go. Just turn it over.

For static timing a negative ground car (if possible with a Crane) connect your test lamp between coil (-) and chassis ground. What you're looking for is battery voltage on the coil (-) to indicate when the points/ignition open (which breaks current flow). When the points/ignition are conducting (closed) the test lamp will be off because coil (-) will be at ground/earth potential.

Out standing.
