Is there a way to test a battery's charge and whether or not an alternator is working properly. A little off topic, lets say you boost a vehicle and the vehicle getting boosted had the positive and neg. wires switched what type of damage may result and whould there be any damage done to the vehicle doing the boosting?

Put a ohmmeter across the terminals of the battery it should read about 12v.
