Ok. I tested the starter. One post go starter! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
Other post, no go starter. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif I think the sol is kaput!

Options:
1 - Should I attempt just the solenoid, and keep the starter.
B - Spring for a new starter.
/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazyeyes.gif - Take the starter somewhere to have it rebuilt.

Seems like a bugger that needs to be taken out & shot. I beleive that this IS from 1968 and may have cranked it's last flywheel. Sounds good & runs well when I jump it.

Your thoughts.

$148.85 for a reman Lucas starter with solenoid (includes $30 refundable core charge, so $118.85). Shipping will put a dent into that in both directions.

A new solenoid is $49.

Seems like a good price; I'd buy the whole enchilada if it were my decision. Or maybe Tony has a good used one and/or a better deal from Moss /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

If it starts well when you jump it, I would check out the battery and charging system first!

Bruce with lots of checks in the car and out we have determined that the solenoid is bad. Vping has gotten good at startes now, think I would just replace the solenoid at this point, if you get stuck some time in the future you can always push start it to get home.

I agree with this. The whole enchilada sounds like the best deal and no labor to deal with. The starter is so old it may need to be replaced one day and the cost for both is more than just the starter.
I may not return the core and keep it for parts although....
I am waiting on a response from Tony but he seems like he is real busy right now and is going on vaca. Gotta find another way to get what I need.

Tony is out of town, his daughter just had his first grandchild and all is well we hope.
