Starter goes Click-Oh how easy this car is to fix

I do love to have repeatable problems that are so easy to diagnose and fix.

Went out to drive Bugsy to run an errand, turn key, starter goes a half click and all is dead, no radio, no nothing. Hmmm I've seen this before. Popped the bonnet and sure enough the Bendix drive on the starter is hanging out there and has not retracted. Grabbed the trusty wrench I keep in the car just for that purpose, twist in the square drive on the Bendix back in and voila Bugsy starts right up.

For those of you who don't have one, you need to keep a 3/8" wrench with you at all times. You never know when you'll need it.

And if you are without that wrench and your starter jams, key OFF 4th gear and a gently rocking back and forth usually pops the bendix out of the ring gear.
And I know a guy who bought an MGB with a seized engine for $100 because the owner *thought* the engine was seized. Buyer rocked the car in gear, turned the key and fired it up and drove off leaving a very sad PO standing in the driveway.
