Starter Button

Alot of cars British, American, and otherwise have starter buttons. The older the car the more likely it is to have a starter button of some sort wether it is a finger button or a foot switch.
 
Of course the TR3 button is electical, but ISTR that some are mechanical, i.e. pulling on them physically engages the starter. You're about 50 years to young to recall when cars had a starter button on the floorboard.
 
One 1941 model engaged the starter when the clutch pedal was pushed fully to the floor, but only when the engine wasn't already running.

Early Healeys and XKE's also have buttons on the dash.
 
The Honda S2000 has this feature too (I guess, to reflect it's retro-roots). Lots of other folks (such ase Miata owners) have been buying these and installing them:

I've always liked the quirky SAAB key-start mounted between the seats. In my youth, I recall that some of the pushbutton automatic cars (Ramblers?) used the "neutral" button to start the car...once the car was running, the starter would not engage when the button was pushed.
My plane uses an "Armstrong" starter. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I had a 58 Chrysler 300-D with this arrangement. I think government standards finally dictated that all cars be started the same way.

All pre 70's Jags did - XK 120 - 150, Mk II, Mk VII - IX, etc.
