It never ends. I ordered a new high-torque starter and instead got a rebuilt Lucas. They were kind enough to Blue Label a replacement and this time I got a high-torque starter for an MGB. I tried clocking it every which way and it would not go. They said the box was mislabeled and will Blue Label the correct one. This is driving me crazy. I just went back in the garage and put on CRAZY by Gnarls Barkley. What else can I do.

S-O-S " Abandon Ship!!

Crypty's cousin must be visiting you Bill.

I feel your pain.

Call him. He said he would match the price yesterday. I may be wrong here, but I think the starter you are referring to at $225 is a new Rover V8 high torque from England. They were up to $400 a little while ago, but now they are back in production. The ones for the TR6, MGB, etc, are a different animal all together. They are made somewhere here in the U.S. and marketed thru various autherized retailers.

Thanks Todd. I tried to call TRF and was 1/2 hour to late.

A third one....wrong again.

Ted Schumacher at TSI Automotive (not the aforementioned vendor) GUARANTEED me the right starter...tomorrow.

This is like totally spooky.

The only electrical of DPO Pedro's in the
Crypt Car is Pedro's starter.

Could this be Ctypty's ace in the hole
to call David's 4 kings?

There is a guy in CT does hi torque motors for about $140. Mine came from there. If I find the address, I'll post it if there is any interest.

I'd be interested. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif

Post it just for posterity's sake, Alan!

BTW: did'ja get to go boarding?

Geez, Bill! If you juggle enuff of 'em to wind up with an MGB one "unaccounted for" I have a place to ship it! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

Dude, THAT is the same starter that I have been running for the last three years, and I got it from TRF, listed as one of his vendors. (TRF said they are out for the foreseeable future, can't fill current orders) Not knocking a vendor, MOSS sold me the three starters that wouldn't fit. And you say these are in stock? I will give him a call tomorrow. Why can he have them and yet not get enough to someone like TRF?

Ted Schumacher will have me a gear-reduction starter here tomorrow that is NOT a HI-TORQUE (the Moss brand and also the TED SCHUMACHER brand. Ted claims he is the supplier to Moss. This gets really confusing.) and is clocked every 20 degrees. Alana, the gear-reduction you pictured can be clocked by jambing one of the bolts underneath the electric motor. Not a great setup, but works. Why this technique, I am running a Group 44- knockoff header (Falcon 6 3 2) and this is the only way I could get it to fit. The one TSI is sending is actually an earlier version with an adapter. Whatever. I am about to go over the edge. So frustrated, that I am not even proof-reading this post, just %$#@&....

Because HE builds the things and the rest just resell them! I'm cheap - I hate buying stuff from resellers at inflated markups when I can get them straight from source. I thought most people knew about him - I figured if I did everyone must...

I (or rather the mechanic I used) paid around $140 about a year ago. Zero problems, works like a dream, fits just fine with my Moss 632 headers. ymmv, this was just a public service announcement /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Had I known all this, I suppose I would have my starter at this point and at the same price as I paid TRF.

But... TRF DID tell me they expected them this week. Lets see if that happens or not.

Bill, sorry about your issue, man... that just aint right.

Just great Alan, now I have to do this-

For sale- I rebuilt starter 71, powder coated and no starts since rebuild.
