Back in 1980 / 1981 my dad and I (mostly my dad) towed home two old TR6's and made one. He used to call it a junk pickers dream, we didn't spend a lot on it and cut a few corners putting it together but had a lot of fun driving it around. It ended up being my college graduation present and I enjoyed taking it out in the Spring, Summer and Fall. I stored it away every winter in a garage or barn and it held up well and always seemed run when I needed it to. I'm sure I've blocked out all the no starts and bad memories along with all the brake fluid that ended up on my shoes and pant legs. My wife and I enjoyed taking it out every now and then and then along came four kids, softball, baseball, basketball, wrestling, bike scratches, not enough room in the garage or enough money or time to go around. It sat out winters and didn't get started very often let alone driven and came very close to getting drug away a number of times for a couple of bucks. One of the neighbors (Mr. Jack, a wise man) pretty much shamed me into keeping it one day when he sarcastically told me "all us guys that got rid of our 57 Chevy's are so glad we did and put that money to such good use". He said keep that old thing and some day you will find time to work on it. Well that day came a couple of years ago when my youngest one started showing some interest in that piece of junk sitting next to the garage. We stayed true to it's origin and didn't spend a lot of money but did a lot of taking apart and cleaning and adjusting from gas tank and lines, carburetors, and electrical work. I have been blessed for going on 57 years and have many great memories of points in time with each of my kids. One of those things that I will never forget the rest of my life is the look in that 12 year olds eyes the day that I was turning the key and trying to get our 72 TR6 to stay running and he was turning that distributor for the first time and had no idea what might happen and he some how found that spot where it just started running as smooth as I always remember it running 30+ years ago. We spent this Summer and Fall taking the old paint off and just finished putting a new coat of Damson Maroon paint on it. We have been taking this driver out for short trips around the neighborhood and looking for excuses to run errands or go to the store but hope to get it completely back together in the next couple of weeks, we are cutting it close here in Ohio. Sorry so long winded but I just couldn't seem to turn that 72 TR6 story off.
