Start up idle

When I first start the car I have to keep my foot on the gas. It usually stalls at every corner until the car warms up. It then idles nicely around 800rpm. I have a weber downdraft carb and manual choke. The choke helps with starting the car but does not affect the idle rpms. What do I have to do to initiate a fast idle until the car warms up? I did read somewhere about bending the linkage. Does anyone know exactly what linkage? Maybe a picture.

The Weber carb should have a fast idle lever under the choke shaft. I have a MG Weber set up on the shelf with an auto choke and it has an off idle lever under the choke housing. My CJ7 Jeep has a Weber on it with a manual choke and it has an off idle lever under the choke shaft. Did you get the carb set up new or was it used? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif PJ

I'll get the carb off the shelf today and look at it closer. It's been a while since I've looked at it. I'll get back to you. It does seem strange that there isn't an off idle adjustment on it though. PJ

xsteamer, I took a photo of the Weber I have on the shelf. In attachment form. I know you have a manual choke, but take a look at the lever behind the throttle shaft. It's the choke off idle lever. It's actuated by the vertical link from the throttle lever. on the other side the lever has an adjustment screw that rides on a cam and from the cam a link goes to the choke butterflys. Your carb should have a base for these levers to work from, bolted in the same place as the auto choke housing. That's how my Jeep is set up and other than the jet and ventury size, the carbs are basically the same. Do you have a photo of where the choke cable hooks up to the carb? PJ
