MGB Staight Pipe a MGB?

Hi:

The center muffler in my 74 has a hole in it.
Since there are 2 (muffler and resonator)
I was going to staight pipe it and was wondering
if anyone else has done that.

How loud does it get?

Pretty loud at 3000 RPM. Did that years ago. Dad said he could hear me coming home when I turned off the main highway (that was 1/2 mile away)

Quite a few folks I know have skipped that center muffler and were happy with it. I went with a small glass pack in that spot plus the rear muffler, and the car is nice and quiet. Glass pack is handy in that it's smaller and doesn't take up much ground clearance, while still keeping things quiet.

After the second Bell stainless center unit got bashed (not my fault either time) we used a straight pipe instead, leaving just the Bell rear muffler/resonator(?). The sound is a bit louder, but it sounds really good to me - like it means business.

When I did mine I removed the cat and attached directly to the exhaust manifold with the three bolt flange and 2" pipe to one glass pack in the rear. neibors ask if darla has a muffler? I just grin and say yep. however it is quite loud.....

I put this stainless system from Moss on the wifes B. Has a nice sensible sound. Put it on in 05 and still looks like new. PJ

It's more useful for scraping speed bumps than anything else.

And man-hole covers stuck above road grade height. :madder:

Got Lucky!

Pulled out a what looks to be
brand new exhaust pipe, muffler
and resonator at the bone yard.

Went back to inspect a 74 "B" that I
was scavanging parts off of and looked
under the car and behold.

Going to the bone yard $5
Entry to the bone yard $2
New exhaust Pipe $24

Taking it home knowing
you got a great deal? PRICELESS
