SSsnake Update - New Photos

Well, the hood is now in white epoxy primer & we're working on the final touches on the front clip....tomorrow we hope to start test fitting the hood so I'll have photos of that.

The front clip is pretty much smoothed (check out the photo of what we did to the brake duct vent opening) & ready for me to find some parking lights I like so we can 'french' them in....also, we'll hang the chin spoiler & trim out the new oval grille opening...slowly she's beginning to look like a car again! & it's time for me to drop the suspension & pull everything from underneath so we can clean it up and spray bedliner to protect the underside.

1st photo shows how we're closing the front edge of the hood after it was cut - & how rough the underside is.

2nd photo shows the underside of the hood after all the work is finished except final sanding.

3rd photo shows the top side of the hood - notice the fine trim line right down the middle.

4th photo shows the nose as it looks today - everything is smoothing out.

5th photo is a close up of the smoothed brake duct opening.

Re: SSsnake Update

Getting close Tony, when do you think it will be finished? The British V8 meet in June at Durham, NC would be a fine place to make it's debut. It would fit right in among all its modified kin.

Re: SSsnake Update

We've laid the hood on SSsnake to start final fitting....after we work the edges so it drops into it's hole, we'll install the latching mechanisms & bolt it to the hinges for final adjustments. Then, we'll sand & work out a few things we found before the buildable primer goes on.

Bill, we're close to block sanding...we have to install park lights, finish out the grille opening, fit the chin spoiler (Monday) & the rear spoiler, finish out the engine compartment & the trunk area, etc., etc....

Suspension, wiring, plumbing come out next week so it can go on a body dolly.....moving along - this summer I hope.

Re: SSsnake Update

Did you decide against the side cowl vents? Looks as though the openings have been filled in.

Re: SSsnake Update

No, they're open...Monday we're going to fit & fiberglass their brackets inside the openings......don't know what that is - we've bedlined the inside of the fenders, that might be what we're seeing...

Re: SSsnake Update

Its a light trick. In the first side shot, the on-axis flash of your camera flattened out any depth looking into the cowl vent. The direction of the light is what did it. There are no shadows in the vent to add depth. In the last photo, if you look closely, you can see the depth inside the vent area.

Re: SSsnake Update - New Photos

So, this afternoon, I crawled up under SSsnake around 1pm & I crawled out from under him at 3:20pm....suspension is now sitting on the floor and SSsnake's up on jack stands.

Tomorrow, we'll lift him onto the body dolly so they can clean the undercarriage & see what condition the undercoating is in...after they scrape or do whatever they have to do to ensure the undercoating is secure without places where water can get under it, they'll apply new body color coordinated bedliner as undercoating....& the wheel wells will be prepped for shiney body colored paint.

But, before anything other than bedliner is applied, we still have to finish the body, smooth the engine compartment & firewall, & build the things I want in the trunk area (the trunk will look like a GT with a raisable floor under which will be all my stereo components - a 'doughnut' spare will rest on top of the hinged GT floor)....

Of the suspension parts you see in the 3rd photo, the front is stock & won't be used but the rear is custom & will be cleaned up to go back under SSsnake...those are composite springs, rear disc brakes, an MGC rear end, panhard bar, anti-tramp bars, & adjustable coil-over shocks (from which I've removed the coils).

And we're getting closer every day!
