Weird problem has started with my '98 Toyota Startet (same chassis as the Paseo)
Two weeks ago I had the rear brakes redone, now mostly when I apply the brakes hard there is a strong humming sound from one of the rear brakes, also is seems to occur mostly when braking and turning at the same time. Lightly braking doesn't seem to cause noise.
Any ideas ???

Brake/turn combo may be side-loading a bearing?

yup - go back to the shop.

Spent the morning in the shop. We took the right rear brake apart and put it back together 5 times, each time taking it for a drive, and it continued humming when braking. The bearing looks perfect.

In the end we cleaned off the surface of the brake shoes and drum, put it all back together and it seems to be quite. If not they will get the brake shop to reline the shoes again.
