Sprite with Big Healey Paint

Austin Nearly - I don't mind it though you really should graft a BE rearend to make it VERY similar

Are those aluminum bumpers or was the chrome stripped and the steel brushed or something?

Call me the odd man out, but I kinda like it. The idea of it, anyway. I've always liked the big healey two-tones. The square arch kills it; it would look better on a '74. (The two-tone doesn't follow any body contours on a Spridget, either, which adds to the incongruity.) The headlamp brows and hood chrome are a little fussy, for me.

'Twere me, I would keep the front contour behind the wheel arch, and follow a more horizontal line back, that doesn't break over the rear arch, with a gradual downslope. Think Magnette Mk IV:

Man, There are actually people bidding on this "Thing"!

Not my Cup-of-Tea.

Ya Know Guys, it is just paint.

I would be willing to bet well over half the cars on this forum are painted by, or for, the present owner.

If the car is good, I would never let a paint job stop me from buying it.

Anything else on that car could be changed in an afternoon.

As already said, it's just paint. The reserve is 255OL - $3825? I've seen a lot worse sell for a lot more.

It eventually sold for ÂŁ3100, roughly $5000.

Practical Classics Price Guide shows ÂŁ3750 for a "Condition 1" and ÂŁ2250 for "Condition 2" as guide prices...

I intend on painting my cars to please myself... but I don't expect to do anything that might have a significan impact on resale value (BRG is good, pink... er, maybe not so....)

I once painted an MGB an idiosyncratic two-tone scheme, white over black, where the black was below the side trim line aft of the front wheel and ending at the "ridge" beneath the tail light. I liked it, and it seemed distiinctive enough to attract attention and buyers rather than put them off....

Glenn used to come over to our place every weekend in his E type. One weekend he showed up in his brothers ragged out 3000. Late Friday night in the Library, a bar in Fairfax, VA, Glenn stated there was a car show on Sunday. We went home and started working on the 3000. I welded in sheet metal repair patches, Robbie applied the mud, John sanded the repairs, and Glenn sanded all other areas. Around and around we circled the car. Late on Saturday we finished priming the car. Now seemed like a good time to locate the finish coat. All Robbie had was dark brown Dulex enamel and hot weather primer. This effort occurred in the fall when it was cool. I applied the paint and everybody stepped back to admire the new finish. As we watched, the paint started moving towards the floor. It would not tack. After removing the paint with thinner and newspapers, I went to the garage I worked at across the street. I came back with several large boxes of motor cycle lacquer touch up paint in cans about 1 inch in diameter and 1.25 inches tall and many colors. After every one opened all the cans and poured them into gallon cans I proceeded to respray the 3000. I asked Robbie to open the bay doors for more light. It was about 800 AM. We rolled the car outside and it was Salmon Pink metallic. Glenn went to the show and placed highly. We told his brother to buy a gallon of paint in the color he liked and that we would respray the car. He fell in love with the color and never had us change the color. I would never have picked pink for a 3000, but it looked great with the curves.

I agree that it would look better with a Frogeye rear end on it, but I would have to see it in the metal before I made a final decision.
