it'll work just fine... I love the one I added to mine that looks just like it. The rounded slot clears the air vent hose and the two slots up front clear a couple of seams.. when you install it you'll see.
 
I make my own shelves now from old No Parking signs.
Any metal will work but since I have a connection with the town for old signs, they work great.
cut it to size with an extra inch to fold up and use the old front nose or cover a piece of wood with vinyl for a new nose.
Better than original.
I have also made them out of wood but nothing beats a sheet of aluminum.
Now don't go stealing the no parking sign down the street but if you go to the town garage and ask about old signs, they may be able to help.
