Sprite front swivel axle information

I'm trying to source out some parts for the Elva's front suspension which has Triumph Herald uprights and Sprite hubs. Here's my question:

How does the wheel spindle on a drum-braked Sprite attach to the swivel axle assembly--Is it tapered and does it bolt through the back?

The Moss drawing simply shows the entire assembly as one piece and I wonder if the spindles themselves are available separately.

Mike, they are one piece. The competition versions are modified by having a spindle made of a higher strength alloy welded into the upright.
I've wondered about the viability of doing a Spit style with the replaceable spindle myself.

Thanks Jeff. Seeing as how the Sprite assembly swivels on a kingpin I was afraid that was going to be the answer.

The spindle on the Herald starts at the correct diameter (1") but has too fast a taper for the Sprite hub--I could probably get a machine shop to turn some for me. Any thoughts on the correct grade of steel to be used?

Mike, I think the alloy used is just regular 4130. You may want to check with either Huffaker or Winners Circle to verify.

If you are going to do any really heavy-duty driving with these then 4340M is really great and only about 10% more expensive (for the raw stock material). We (Boeing) use it on the landing gear and it is substantially better than common 4340.
