~The Springfield Vintage GP~ has been cancelled.

There has always been some doubt about this event since it was cooked up as soon as the VSCCA and the Pittsburgh Vintage GP Association parted company last year......especially since the VSCCA schdeduled it on the exact same date as the PVGP. There was a lot of talk about the date being chosen due to sour grapes.

Many eastern vintage racers expressed regret that this obvious conflict existed. For myself, I wish them well but I sure hope they schedule it on a different weekend (than the PVGP) next year.

I'm not surprised and will be at Schenley.

VSCCA effectively entered into competition with its own past good accomplishments and was asking its membership to choose an unknown and uninspiring venue over a known one with lots of sizzle, heritage, and fond memories in the minds of many VSCCA racers. The proposed "course" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a5EgLbCtAKQ) seems more like an urban maze than a racing venue.

In an email today VSCCA President Bob Scheiffelin announced that the deal was off for this year but alluded to the possibility of setting up--for the same weekend--another "race at an historic venue a few miles away from the center of Springfield". I'm curious where this might be--any ideas?
