stumbled across these and thought I'd share.

borrowed from https://www.attackbanana.com/modmg/

First is a custom rear suspension using a set of coilovers

second is a front tubeshock conversion that looks interesting and fairly simple

That poor little Sprite /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

I actually kinda liked the TriumphAustinHealey35Ford...paint it out matte black with some RAF type logos and it could be a cool little....err something /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

The front shock conversion struck my interest..I haven't seen one done that way (there may be a reason for that) and it doesnt look like it would take much work to do, and it doesnt appear to permanently alter the car...wish there was a pic showing how and where the shock connected to the a-arms.

gotta admit....the TriumphAustinHealey35Ford is better than this thing:

If you look close, The inner feneders that appear as if they would interfere with this conversion appear to have been cut off. Doesn't look to be able to be done without at least altering that area.

do like those but for now went with HD valves and new oil. Picking up those same shocks for the rear later today. Ordered them last week.

nial,

I had forgotten about you website...thanks for re posting. I doubt I'm going to do anything to the front my sprite for the time being (other than new busings, rebuilt shocks, and adding a 3/4" Front sway bar).

Things that go "break" in the night.............

Hate to say it but that parallel bar rear suspension is not really the way to go. In roll the suspension will bind as the bars will resist roll and housing movement putting strange loads in the front strut brackets. Straight ahead or with no roll it will be fine...so is it 1/2 good ?

The pix of the blue car tube shock conversion with the flat plate screwed onto the top or the tube shock with the small "l" bracket on the top of the shock.....it WILL bend and then after a while will break. right at the bend.

The other tube front conversion with the nice drawings has a shortcoming in the top shock bracket methodology in that it is screwed into a double wall sheet metal bulkhead and eventually the sheet will crack and the mount will fail. It needs bracing on the inside in the form of a 2 x 7" or so .125" vertical with a triangle gussset from it to the shock platform below.

Yes...you're correct.
I keep meaning to fix that in the webpage.
Lime Rock caused it to crack the first year out. So I backed it up with 0.125 plate that was bolted and glued in place.
I didn't do it initally because the car is a rubber bumper chassis and has big folded steel braces on the other side of the upper shock mount. But it still cracked.
It has about 75 racing hours on it since then.
So far, so good.
