Spridget Differential

Hi, I'm a newb to the site. Great forum. I'm in need of some help/info. Anybody familiar with the spridget rear end. I've removed the diff from the car and it has a thick crown or ring gear. A spare diff I have has a thinner ring gear but the cases are identical except for the front pinion bearing. Any thoughts?

Thanks for any help/info you can provide.

There are two different carriers, the early, with the small pinion, and a drain plug on the bottom, and a later one, without the drain plug. The early ones can run a higher numerical gear, ie 4.88, or 5.38. This may be the differences in the ring gear you are seeing.
Count the teeth on the ring gear, and divide by the amount of teeth on the pinion to see what ratios you have.
Incidentally, the pinion bearings for the early models are now over $200.00 each!

Thanks for the info. I checked and both ring/pinion sets are 4.22- I'm wondering if someone changed pinion bearings and swapped an early ring and pinion set into a later carrier. Both carriers appear to be the later style based on the drain plug location.
