Spotted this old Chevy fire truck in Porto Portugal

I think the firemen said they still take this old truck on runs in "emergencias"

Likely they use it for false alarms
 
You would be surprised to know, a lot of these old trucks are still in service. Low mileage, just pump hours. Fire Departments usually keep them clean, maintained and running. Our FD ran a 40 model l Ford for quite a while along with the new trucks, wasn't as heavy and gearing was better for off-road farm fires.

Not surprised at all - I know the issue here is that typically the certifications run out long before the engines and pumps actually doThat and err "apparatus envy" keeps new trucks coming. I have long thought that these old trucks are the ones people should be exporting to places like Haiti for fire departments there - super low tech and fixable with a pair of pliers and a pack of chewing gum.
