Spotted Surrey top for sale

THIS WILL FIT the 250 ??

Picture is not available ??? but can post to CL !!

Smells fishy, sent an email lets see what happens

There is a difference between the early backlites and the later ones that were used on a 4a or 250. They will all fit the 4a or 250 but a later one will not just bolt onto a tr4. The body edge on a tr4 is wider than later cars and the tops were modified at some point. When I was building my 4a I sat the backlite onto my tr4 and it would not fit. I have no idea when the changes occured on the part. Bob

What would be any identifying marks (if any) one would look for ?

Tony, As far as I know they are the same from the outside. Its just a different casting up-under at the front corners. I wish I would have taken pics while it was off. Car went to a new owner a few years ago.

Tony,

Sounds like you don't have to worry about it since you have a TR250.

Bob,

I have backlight which is an early one as it came from a low number TR4 with the aluminum hardtop section. I also have a second one that came with a steel hardtop section so I'll have to compare the two and see if I can see any differences in that area.

I forgot to add that the TR4 and TR4A SPC list the backlight frame with the same part number.

All you have to do is cut the 2nd from the front stud off, drill out the threaded holes for the soft top and it should drop right in. I wanted the extra holding power of the 2nd stud for my 250 so I made a J washer to slide up the stud and catch the inside edge of the deck piece.

The top of the forward deck piece is wider on a Tr4 so the stud wants to ether hit that narrow 1/4" wide piece of the deck or go along side of it. Guys who fit a Surrey to a TR6 have the same problem.

If you have an aluminum frame then I'd cut the stud. Mine is fiberglass so the extra holding power I thought was important.
