The Subaru 360

I remember those worthless POS cars.
They were pronounced su-BAR-u. Two stroke, I think, 55 MPH downhill with a tailwind being pushed by a loaded semi. Couldn't sell the dang things....so they pulled them off the market, re-designed them, re-introduced as a flat 4, and re-pronounced SU-bar-U.
I remember looking at them when new, driving them in SOCal (hence my first-hand experience with top speed).

They had a "van" that was unbelievably small.

Yeah it was pretty funny, the original TV ads were "Sure its Cheap and Ugly but..."

Looks like something to star in Cars 3!!

The interesting 360 story I've heard is that when they failed to meet 1968 US standards the still loaded carrier ship left Portland to return to Japan. As soon as they were in international water they pushed the new cars out the cargo door. Apparently they were unwanted anywhere. Of course this could be just urban legend.

My son just put an NSU Prinz on eBay. Looks about that size. Just as ugly, but German...
