I've been in Huntsville, AL for the past two months on an extended business trip and haven't seen any little British cars except the occassional NEW Mini. But today, (Sunday, 19 Sep) we were on our way from Breakfast to our work place and I spotted a 74 MGB driving the other way. I managed to flag him down and had a brief chat. Wouldn't you know - every day I've been here I have had my little pack of British Car Forum cards with me - EXCEPT TODAY! So, I wrote the forum address on a regular business card and gave it to him. Not sure if he will join, but I hope so. It was a very nice looking B. It was light grey in color with a black interior. The bumbers had been converted to straight chrome bumbers.

Bas, the '74 'B' had chrome bumpers as stock.

He said his was originally one with the rubber overlays - maybe I got the year wrong? I thought he said it was a later 74 though.

& you've not come by my place yet!?!

He took the 'Sabrina's' off it to make it cleaner looking

An early '74 has rubber-tipped overriders. Early (67 and before) had solid chrome. I believe Basil is saying he converted from rubber tips to all chrome.

I expect that's probably what he did. At any rate it did have pure chrome bumbers when I saw it.

I'd love to if I could ever get any time to do so. Unfortunately, the job we are currently doing has me working 12-14 hours a day 7 days a week!

Early 74 had chrome bumpers, then remaining models had rubber extensions added to pass new safety regulations, like the Spitfire and TR6's, then by years end had totally swung over to the rubber bumper model......Generally known as the 74 1/2........... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/canpatriot.GIF /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

And I drove mine to work today...don;t know how much more beautiful weather like this we will have.

BTW, the early 1974 models had chrome bumper with rubber tipped chrome bumperettes. The 1974 models made after January of 1974 had those bigger, all rubber bumerettes still on a chrome bumper. Then the 1974 1/2 had the new rubber bumpers.

I think what our fearless leader saw was a chrome bumper with the Bumperettes removed.
