Spitfire spitfire hood

So I decided to take my Spitfire out of its 7 year nap. Thought I'd work out a few rust issues with the hood in preparation for eventual paint. Already a question. I've got small areas of rust on the outside at the seam between the upper and lower hood. I found it easy to clean a bit of it up with a stainless brush on my dremel. I was thinking of using Rust Mort to resolve any in the seam. How do others handle this and is seam sealer or something else used to fill the gap or just paint?

It sounds like you have a MKIV ir 1500. I have MKI and MKII Spitfires. I sand blasted the seams and used POR15 on the seams- I'm told it encapsulates the remaining rust. I've used seam sealer in other areas, not on the hood/ bonnet. My thought is seam sealer will keep moisture out- a good thing- but will not prevent any rust from continuing to grow.

T.T.

The real problem often over looked is to use a good caulk/seam sealer on the inside of the
bonnet seams so that moisture cant wick into this critical seam. The tinworms will creap back out in less time than it takes to
say rustbucket.......

Sorry, it's a 1978 1500. From the little that I did it had little to no rust in that gap. Except for one bad floor pan which I replaced 15 years ago rust has never been an issue. I just can't figure out if something is used there and what it may be to bridge the gap for paint. I'm taking a body course at the local vocational tech school in a couple of weeks and don't want someone to lead me the wrong way.
