Spitfire Spitfire fuel issues

I have a 79 Spitfire which has a severe fuel smell for the first 3-5 minutes of driving. Have checked the usual suspects, leaking gas tank, fuel pump, carb (Weber Downdraft), etc. checked crankcase to see if pump was dumping into it, all fuel lines, essentially everything I could think of. Plugs look good and car runs fine, idles fine, no issues. Any guesses?
Thanks Tom S

MIne has a gassy smell after a hot start.....heat from the exhaust manifold soaks int the carb bowl nad makes things a little rich...

How about during the first 3-5 minutes of idling ?
What I'm getting at is if you could set the accelerator pedal so the engine ran about 2-2.5k while you had a look around and under to see if you can locate the source.

Excellent idea, should have thought of that. I'll give it a try tomorrow. I am wondering if a gasket on the Weber is shot and leaks when cold, and stops after warm up when everything expands. Thanks for the tip.
